How To Golf – Your Golf Swing

How to GolfA key point to improving your Golf Swing is going to be the shift of your weight. When starting with your swing, your body weight should be sitting slightly more to your back foot. Pretend that your weight is attached to a string that is attached to your club. When pulling your club back, your weight should shift backwards. When moving your club forward your weight should also move forward. A smooth transition from your back foot to your front will help with a smooth golf swing.

How To Golf – Don’t Crush the Ball

How to GolfAnother key point that no one typically points out, is don’t try to crush the ball! When it comes to your Golf Swing the only part you really have to do is to get it started. After starting your downward swing, hold form and just let gravity and inertia do the rest. The weight from the club is going to be enough force to get the ball going. Inertia states, once in motion an object with stay in motion unless acted upon by an opposite force, meaning once you start your swing you will follow though your swing until it is complete. This will help you with a smooth easy stroke, getting the ball into the air and in a straight line.

How To Golf – Getting it Straight

How to GolfWhen starting your swing there are a few things to remember here are a few Beginner Golf Tips. A complete swing should begin, follow through, and end all in one smooth stroke. Your swing should follow the shape of a circle with the lowest point should be on the ground. When a golfer tries to scoop their ball their low point isn’t where the ball is, it is in the air some three to five inches away. This stroke doesn’t follow a circular pattern instead it is more of an oval; this causes the club to only make contact with the top of the ball, thus making the ball only travel along ground and not through the air.

How to GolfHaving come upon this article I am going to assume that you are a beginner golfer as I am too. I did not start playing the game because someone told me I should or even because I found it interesting. I started to play golf because I found it to be a great way to share something special with the ones I hold near and dear to my heart. While learning to play with the ones I love, I have picked up a few how to golf tips and lessons that will be either inspiring or just another fact to you. Hopefully you will walk away from this with a new view on the game of golf. Learning how to golf is not as difficult as you might think, but you will have to work on it for some time. Learning how to golf is like learning to ride a bicycle – you learn it once, and never forget it.

When it comes to how to golf lessons, I have never had any proper training. My lessons came from my grandfather when I was around the age of eight or nine. He use to watch golf whenever it was on, he only played leisurely and enjoyed taking his grandkids to do so. My grandparents lived on the end of a dead end road, just past their house was a huge drainage ditch that never filled with anything but a few puddles of water and then past that there was a corn field. This was my first driving range. It was no more than thirty yards across, but at the time it seemed a whole lot bigger. We would hit golf balls all afternoon every time we would visit. My grandfather could easily clear the ditch, when I couldn’t he would tell me that it was okay because if I just kept practicing, one day I would clear the ditch too. And would you believe it? He was right; I did manage to clear the ditch. It only took me five years or so!

I remember my grandparents always having some old golf clubs hanging out in a closet in the garage. How to GolfMy grandfather had some Wilson brand clubs that were Johnny Miller Signature irons and some persimmon woods too. Only reason I remember that is because we still have them! Equipment doesn’t have to be brand new; I feel when it comes from someone special, hand-me-downs are better. They have a history of being a part of someone else. Now they have a history of being a part of me. I have used new clubs before. I really cannot say that they made a big difference in my golf swing though. At least with the older clubs, I did not have to pay for them and they already have experience ingrained in them. Maybe, just maybe that will rub off on me! As you can see, learning how to golf is not that hard after all

Author’s Note:  The information provided in this article is strictly based on my personal experiences. There are iPhone apps that give details about club brands and local places to purchase equipment and classes.

Beginner How To Golf Tip #1

How to GolfDo not start out with a full swing. If you start with a half swing you can learn the proper techniques on how to swing. This will include how to follow thru and how to avoid rotating your wrist too much. Starting with a full swing will just cause frustration; the ball will most likely veer to the left or right, if you’re lucky to get it to leave the ground first. Short swings are a great way to get a feel for your clubs and how you yourself handle them.

Beginner How To Golf Tip #2

How to Golf Begin with short swings that involve chipping, putting and pitching. Pay close attention to the putt stroke. All swings are based upon this basic short stroke. Without it there would be no full swing. The next shortest swing is your chipping swing. This one is usually used to get you out of a sand bunker. It is a short swing slightly longer than the putting stroke, and is used with an iron. The last kind of short swing is the pitch shot.

This stroke is about half of a full swing. If you can learn to perform this swing with the proper techniques then learning a full swing will be just as simple and a lot less frustrating.

Beginner How To Golf Tip # 3

How to Golf Do not take golf lessons from a PGA professional. Usually they only offer one type of class, and it is not a beginner course. You do not want to take one class from someone and not learn anything because your skills are not high enough for their skill level. It will just make you uncomfortable and want to play the game less.

The best way to get lessons would be from a local pro or club. This way you will have the same instructor and they will know your strengths and weaknesses. They can help to build your skills where needed and sharpen others. The instructor will also teach you basic rules and etiquette of the game.
